in a plant in the United States
Mass production and manpower saving with a fully automated and consolidated production line
Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (hereafter Toppan Printing; head office: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; President & Representative Director: Shingo Kaneko) has completed construction of a new plant in Round Rock, Texas, U.S.A. for the manufacture of inlets with mounted IC chips and antennas, and full-scale production will begin in early August 2012.
By promptly identifying the potential of smart cards, Toppan Printing has built up a strong track record in the ID card business, with notable achievements including supplying the CP400-II for the issuance of U.S. Department of Defense ID cards in 2005. In recent years, there has been an increase in the adoption of smart cards in the U.S. in order to strengthen security for items such as credit cards and ID cards. Toppan Printing has established this new plant in order to respond to the need for security products such as ID cards in the U.S. market, where an expansion in demand is anticipated in the future.
Based on manufacturing know-how that Toppan Printing has built up over the years, the new plant has been fitted with a consolidated line that can carry out fully automated process management from inlet manufacture to inspection and packaging. This means that it has been possible to achieve both mass production and a reduction in the manpower required. The plant has also been fully equipped with a security system which complies with ISO/IEC15408 EAL4+, the international security evaluation standard necessary for the manufacture of security products.
