Toppan has been recognized and rated highly by socially responsible investing (SRI)* rating agencies throughout the world. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has been included in several global SRI indices (as of September 2017).

*Socially responsible investing (SRI): An investment strategy that gives weight to a company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives as a key element of investment decision-making, together with conventional investing metrics based on a company’s financial position and performance.

Dow Jones Sustainability Indices

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) are a family of global stock price indices developed by Dow Jones & Company, Inc. of the U.S. and RobecoSAM of Switzerland. The indices integrate corporate social responsibility criteria with economic, environmental, and social performance indicators to evaluate and select leading companies around the world. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has been included in the DJSI World Index for the second year in a row.

RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook Award

Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has received the Silver Class distinction in the RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook 2018. Toppan has also been named as an Industry Mover for having made the largest proportional improvement in sustainability performance in the Commercial Services & Supplies category. The Yearbook 2018 bestows Gold, Silver, and Bronze Class awards on excellent companies based on assessments of 2,479 global leading companies in 60 industries. RobecoSAM has recognized 23 Japanese companies for outstanding performance, bestowing the Gold Class distinction on five companies, Silver Class distinction on five, and Bronze Class distinction on 13.

MSCI ESG Leaders Indexes

The MSCI World ESG Leaders Index is a world-renowned, socially responsible investing index developed by MSCI Inc. of the U.S. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has been included as a company with outstanding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.

MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN)

The MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index (WIN) is an investment index of Japanese companies spearheading the promotion of gender diversity. The Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) of Japan uses the index to assess the environmental, social, and governance performance of Japanese companies. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has been included as a company that performs well in gender diversity metrics such as the average tenure of female employees and the percentages of female employees in the total workforce, pool of new hires, and management.

FTSE4Good Index

The FTSE4Good Global Index is a series of stock price indices developed by FTSE Russell. FTSE Russell surveys the world’s leading companies for environmental, social, and governance performance, including labor standards in the supply chain. Companies meeting the criteria stipulated by FTSE Russell are included in the index after being evaluated for sustainability.

FTSE Blossom Japan Index

The FTSE Blossom Japan Index is designed to measure the performance of Japanese companies that demonstrate outstanding environmental, social, and governance practices. This index has been adopted as a passive operating benchmark for the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF) of Japan. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. meets the selection criteria and has been included in the index.

Ethibel EXCELLENCE Investment Register

The Ethibel EXCELLENCE Investment Register was established in 1992 by a Belgian non-profit organization engaged in screenings of ethical investment funds (socially responsible investing). Its influence extends beyond Europe to global markets. Inclusion on the register verifies a company’s outstanding corporate social responsibility performance.

CDP

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a not-for-profit charity collaboratively operated by institutional investors. The CDP requires top companies by market capitalization in major countries to disclose their environmental strategies and greenhouse gas emissions. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. has been participating in this project.
