Toppan Printing is selected as one of the
"Global 100: Most Sustainable Corporations in the World 2007"
In a first for a company in the Japanese printing industry,
Toppan has been chosen among 100 global companies
as a corporation that fulfills its social responsibility
Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (Toppan Printing) has been recognized as one of the "Global 100: Most Sustainable Corporations in the World 2007". This is the first time a company from the Japanese printing industry has been selected.
The "Global 100: Most Sustainable Corporations in the World 2007" lists the 100 world companies that, relative to their industry peers, possess the best ability to manage the social, environmental and governance risks and opportunities they face, and are thus recognized as having the most sustainability.
To compile the Global 100, Corporate Knights Inc., a Canadian CSR magazine publisher, and Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, an American investment research company, assess around 1500 public-traded companies that make up the MSCI World Index and select those implementing outstanding environmental, social and governance programs. The companies selected were announced at the annual World Economic Forum(*) meeting held in Davos, Switzerland from January 24th to 28th.
Toppan Printing established its Ecology Center in 1991 and was quick off the mark in implementing environmental initiatives. Based on its Corporate Philosophy of "contributing to a fulfilling lifestyle as a mainstay of information and culture", to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the company has proactively pursued activities in line with the concept of "triple bottom lines" for the balanced development of society, the environment and the economy.
In the 2007 list, Toppan Printing was recognized as the best among the "industrials" sector, with regards to Human Capital, one of the main areas assessed. The company also received recognition for its initiatives in areas such as stakeholder relations, supply chain management, sustainability focused governance structure, promotion of environmental management, innovation in environmentally friendly products and the company-wide adoption of green purchasing practices.
At the same time as strengthening our CSR related activities, Toppan will continue to pursue further sustainability and aim to be a "a strong company that is respected and trusted by society" both in Japan and overseas.

The World Economic Forum is a nonprofit foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland and founded in 1971 by Klaus M. Schwab. Its membership is comprised of around 1000 large companies and organizations from all over the world, predominantly from Europe and America.
The World Economic Forum holds an annual meeting in January each year in Davos, Switzerland. In addition to representatives from the United Nations and other international organizations, leaders and ministers from various countries, and other powerful politicians, the forum is attended by people including corporate executives, academic experts, economists, actresses, and musicians. There is discussion of political, economic and industrial trends, as well as of various global issues. The Forum is an economic conference recognized throughout the world and often referred to as a "gathering of the world’s intelligence".
