Toppan, working from a foundation in microfabrication technology developed from printing plate technology, is now involved in areas like color filters, which largely determine LCD image quality, antireflection films (surface treatment films) that simultaneously reduce the reflection of external light and protects screen surfaces, and EMI shield meshes for shielding electromagnetic waves generated from plasma displays.
In the area of color filters, Toppan has been an industry leader since it developed a color-striped filter for the image pickup tube of video cameras in 1971 and took subsequent steps like building a supply system incorporating the latest technologies and a production line capable of handling large glass sizes to meet robust demand. Toppan offers color filters for a wide variety of applications ranging from large LCD televisions to mobile phones and has leveraged its advanced technical capabilities and years of expertise to win high praise from customers the world over.
Toppan offers various types of surface treatment films for increasing display image visibility. LR (Low-Reflection) film, which prevents reflections, is outstanding in halting the build up of electric charges, and delivers high contrast, and AG (Anti-Glare) film, which is excellent for stopping glare and preventing screen burn-in, are used in LCD televisions, laptop PCs, and other electronic devices.
Toppan is adapting to larger LCD sizes by moving ahead with construction of a new plant for making color filters for 10th generation glass substrates.
